  • Objectives
    Irish Studies explores a variety of Irish life, past and present, the Irish emigrants experience and Irelands literature and culture. You will develop a thorough understanding of Irish history, society, the Irish contribution and the importance of Irelands cultural heritage. The diploma draws on a number of disciplines including history, sociology, political science, literature and cultural studies. You will be introduced to current social, political and cultural debates about Ireland and the Irish in the new millennium. The course is run in a flexible evening mode and attracts students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Entry requirements
    Students should normally have 200 points from at least two A-levels. Mature students are particularly welcome.

    Course structure

    You take two modules at each of three levels. This Diploma awards 30 undergraduate credits at each level, and these can count towards a full BA (Hons) degree.

        * Political History of Modern Ireland
        * Irish Migration to Britain

    Level 2

        * Divided Island: Irish History 1922-1963
        * Conflict in Northern Ireland

    Level 3

        * Irish Writers in London (Summer School)
        * Irish Traditional Music
        * Dissertation
        * Modern Irish Literature
