    This course has been developed in close consultation with senior producers in film and television and has been designed to provide you with the knowledge, specialised skills and tools that will enable you to manage film and television productions. You will have the opportunity to learn about producing in both the film and television industries and will be able to specialise in your study of one of these dynamic sectors. You will learn the skills and techniques of research within an industry context that will ensure you can balance creative projects with a business-orientated focus. The unique approach of this course lies in its emphasis on the theory which underpins film and television producing practice. The course offers a programme of work designed to enable the new producer to survive in a tough and competitive industry.

    Structure

    Four key industry-related concepts underpin this programme:

    Creative thought: The ability of the producer to analyse the creative needs of a script, encourage and develop the work of writers and directors and improve the overall package to realise a film’s full potential.

    Industry Awareness: The need for a highly developed awareness of how the system works or "how to work the system".  Business acumen and entrepreneurial skills are key to the producer’s success.

    Communication and Relationships: The need for producer to be able to form and maintain relationships within all sectors of the business world.

    Film and Television
    Craft and Technologies: An overview of the creative and technical processes of film and television programme-making and keeping abreast of new methods of production and distribution.

    This course will provide you with the skills needed to prepare for a career in TV and film production.
