Entry requirements

You will need Level 2 Central YMCA Qualification or equivalent plus work experience as a fitness instructor within a health and fitness centre for at least six months. You will be required to sit an initial assessment. You must be enthusiastic, energetic and show an interest in all fitness disciplines. Good basic literacy skills are needed to be successful on the course and a good level of personal fitness is essential.

Content details
This course is suitable for anyone who is seeking a recognised qualification as a personal trainer in a fitness gym or freelance. It covers theory (anatomy and physiology), exercise nutrition, training in different environments and producing a business plan. It also includes resistance (gym) training, circuit training, client appraisal and sports conditioning.

How is the course taught
Through practical and theoretical sessions. Full use is made of our well equiped fitness centre.

Course leads to
NVQ Level 3 in Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise. The modules within this are: NVQ Gym Based Exercise. NVQ Group Exercise with Music. NVQ Yoga. NVQ Level 3 Sport and Recreation (Supervisor).
