Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), BA Hons
  • Course description
The successful completion of this degree leads to recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status, awarded by the DfES.

The programme includes school experience and education studies. Currently an average of eight weeks each year are spent on a placement in school. The university works in partnership with local schools to place students and we ensure that over the course of the programme each student has experience in a variety of schools and with different age groups. The education studies courses examine aspects of children’s learning and principles of teaching in areas such as planning, assessment and classroom management.

Students can select one of two age phases: either 3–7 or 5–11. All students study core curriculum subjects – maths, English and science as well as the foundation curriculum and religious education. The subject study course allows students to study an area of particular interest and develop an area of professional expertise in one area of the National Curriculum. In the third year students have the opportunity to select an area of professional development from a number of options.
