Master Computer Applications in Accounting

  • Objectives This course is designed to meet the needs of those who wish to pursue a career in financial information systems. This could be in a consultancy role or, if combined with a professional accounting qualification, in a systems accounting environment in industry. It is likely to be of interest to graduates in an accounting, business or computing discipline. You will study modern financial information systems, theory and practice. Part of the course will give you some experience in using commercial accounting software.
  • Entry requirements Normally a lower second-class Honours degree, which should include modules in both accounting and computing. Applicants will also be considered who have a relevant professional qualification and/or extensive relevant professional experience, gained in either a financial or IT environment.

    The course comprises seven assessed modules:

    -Accounting Systems
    -Database Development
    -Research Skills
    -Small Business Financial Applications
    -Software Development
    -Strategic Information Management
    -Dissertation (15,000 words)

    And one non-assessed module:

    Business Information Technology

    Assessment
    You are assessed using a range of methods including written reports, software projects and examination.

    It is expected that the successful completion of this course will lead to career opportunities in IT consultancies, accounting practices and the systems accounting departments of large companies.

    Attendance & duration

    Full-time: one year, three days/eves a week
    Part-time (eve): two to three years, one to two days/evenings a week
