Master Manufacture and Design for Polymer Products

  • Objectives This course is run in collaboration with the Open University. It offers a flexible route to advanced study in polymers (plastics and rubbers) primarily for those employed in polymer or manufacturing companies. Applicants can design their own course to fit around their personal and work commitments. Those joining the course will be able to select : -a route of study appropriate to their career aspirations, choosing from a range of optional modules -a convenient balance of distance learning and attendance at short courses -a convenient timescale - delegates can select how many modules they wish to complete per year The course will normally be completed in two to five years, and successful completion will result in an MSc from London Metropolitan University.
  • Entry requirements You will normally hold a first degree in a science or engineering subject but applications from people with relevant industrial experience will also be considered.
  • Academic title MSc Manufacture and Design for Polymer Products
  • Course description Course structure

    Core modules:

-Design and Manufacture with Polymers (Open University)
-Plastics Properties and Materials Selection (London Metropolitan University)
-Plastics Product Design and Manufacture (London Metropolitan University)

    Advanced modules (choose four):

-Principles of Polymer Science (London Metropolitan University)
-Basic and Advanced Injection Mould Design (London Metropolitan University)
-Rubber Compound Design (London Metropolitan University)
    -Forensic Engineering (Open University)

-Computer Design Rheology (London Metropolitan University)
[NB. the Open University modules are double modules]

MSc students also complete a project, which is normally carried out in the workplace.

The short courses provide opportunities for practical work in the centre's well-equipped laboratories.

    Assessment
The course is assessed by coursework, assignments and examinations. The project is assessed by a dissertation.

    Career opportunities
