    Course content:
If you have an interest in fashion, graphics, 3D or Fine Art and want to build on your skills and qualifications to go on to higher education then this is the course for you. The course will give you a chance to build a portfolio of work. Assessment is continuous throughout the course. The course is made up of a number of modules, each covering a different aspect of art and design. There are eight core units and ten specialist units to be completed. The course lasts for two years and progression onto the second year is dependent on the successful completion of the first.

    Course Structure:
The course is structured into blocks of four to six weeks. Each block contains a variety of activities both practical and academic that centre on a core theme or topic. Students will carry out tasks that help develop their skills and promote their own responses and ideas. As well as a variety of practical exercises, lessons will be underpinned by regular lectures, visits, seminars and a possible European field trip. Each block is intended to develop on from the previous, developing your design skills, conceptual abilities,, independence and confidence. The end of each year culminates in an exhibition of work.

    Course resources:
The Art & Design section is well resourced with a fashion and textiles suite, a printmaking studio, a photography studio, darkroom and processing room, a drawing and painting room and three Apple Mac computer suites with a range of digital facilities.

    Assessment:
All work on the course is continually monitored with assessment at the end of each project block.

    Next step:

Progression can be on to Pre- Degree Foundation courses, BA art and design courses or HNC/HND courses. In some cases you can move straight on to work related areas.
