  • Objectives Aims of the course -To enable accounting practitioners to achieve continuing professional development (CPD) while updating their management accounting skills -To enable you to become a master of one topic of your choosing We achieve these aims by having a small seminar-based course, given by leading academics at our central London location
  • Entry requirements This MSc is intended for those who have gained (or are eligible to gain) membership of one of the CCAB professional accounting bodies including ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAI, ICAS, or overseas equivalent.

    The degree has three main modules:

    -Management Accounting Research Methods
    -Contemporary Issues in Strategic Management Accounting
    -Dissertation

    The Research Methods module, which is taught in the autumn semester, provides you with the knowledge skills and competencies for the conduct and reporting of your own research project (the dissertation). The skills developed include critically reviewing the literature, interviewing, questionnaire design, and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data. The Contemporary Issues module, which is delivered in the spring semester, provides you with a critical perspective of contemporary theories and developments in accounting theory and practice. It involves leading academics giving a presentation on specialist areas.

    -Performance Measurement, Management and Improvement in Service Businesses
    -Strategic Management
    -Risk Management
    -Leadership, Change and Management Accounting

    The Dissertation component, which is completed in the summer semester, enables you to build upon the insights gained from the leading academics and others by carrying out a research project focusing on one issue that is relevant to your personal development and your organisation. You will have your own supervisor with whom you can discuss issues arising out of your dissertation.

    Assessment
    A range of methods including Research Methods by a group literature review on a Strategic Management topic and an individual research proposal; Contemporary Issues by an exploratory study into your dissertation topic; and your Dissertation of at least 15,000 words. Individual and group presentations are an important feature of this MSc course.

    This part-time evening 12-month course keeps accounting practitioners at the forefront of their profession by achieving a deep insight into an aspect of their role, increasing their skill set and continuing to improve their communication skills.
