  • Objectives The course is designed to enable managers and would-be managers to gain new understanding, skills and confidence; to make informed judgements about their own professional activities; contribute to decision making processes and the formulation and implementation of policies and practices within the working environment. It is acknowledged that learning should be meaningful and professionally relevant, therefore the use of work related assignments are encouraged.
  • Entry requirements The course is intended for teachers, trainers, lecturers and instructors in the state, private, public, commercial or voluntary sectors of education and training who aspire to senior management positions. Many graduates of the course attain senior management positions in education or training organisations.

  • Course description All students must successfully complete a total of 7 assignments and submit a 12,000 - 15, 000 word Dissertation in order to attain the necessary 180 credits for the award of a Master of Science Degree.  Students who have successfully submitted 4 assignments and attained 60 credits at MSc level may exit with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and Training Management, or with a Diploma, providing they have successfully submitted a total of 7 assignments and attained 120 credits.

    Teaching methods include seminars, group work, lectures and student presentations.  Students are encouraged to produce work related assignments, although this is not prescriptive if a student encounters difficulty in the work place or is a full time student.  All students are allocated a Personal Tutor who will help the student to plan an appropriate course of study and research, discuss progress of work and advise how to construct the dissertation in terms of aims, scope and presentation.

    Curriculum

    Management of People in Organisations; Principles of Marketing; Management of Resources and Finance; Management of Information Systems; Management of the Curriculum; Strategic Issues and Management of the Change; Research Management and Methods; Individual Professional Development; Dissertation.

    The unit of Strategic Issues and Management of the Change requires the student to make a formal presentation to peers as part of the assessment process.

    The assignment for Research Management; Individual Professional Development is the submission of a Research Proposal, a precursor of the Dissertation.

    All Units are compulsory.
