• Objectives
  Designers in today’s textile, fashion and interior design industries must be lively, flexible, highly creative and independent. BA (Honours) Textile Design offers a broad education in textile design which develops, creativity, originality and design application, with pathways in print, knit and weave.
• Entry requirements
  For entry on to the course you will be expected to have successfully completed Foundation Studies in Art & Design and possess two A-levels and three GCSEs at grade C or above. We also welcome applicants with qualifications equivalent to these. As part of your application you will also be asked to submit a portfolio of your art and design work.

  Programme
  
  Stage 1
  
  Stage One is the design and textile foundation, introducing you to the three principal areas of print, weave and knit and also develops areas of visual knowledge and research. Your knowledge and experience of art and design, contemporary practice and cultural context are expanded.
  
  The first three terms progress from the introductory design workshops, through a series of structured projects developing your research, drawing, colour, design and technical skills in two or three of the textile specialist areas alongside digital and non-traditional approaches to design, structure and surface.
  
  Stage 2
  
  As the terms progress you begin to focus on the areas of your choice, until at the end of the fourth term (part way through the second year) you choose one of the subjects in which to specialise: Print, Knit or Weave.
  
  You will then explore your specialist area in depth and develop an innovative and individual approach to design practice, alongside a knowledge of increasingly sophisticated specialist technical, CAD and surface treatment approaches. You will explore designing for some of the many uses of textiles through a range of college-based and external collaborative projects with fashion and interior textile design consultants, retailers, prediction agencies, and design studios.
  
  Stage 3
  
  The third year will initially give you the opportunity to explore the potential of your own specialist creative direction in a fashion or an interior context. You will then consolidate your skills and experience in a largely self directed final year degree project which will enable you to showcase your ambition and personal design identity and position you for the launch of your career.
