    Research covers the environmental, economic and social factors underpinning sustainability in forest systems, studying processes ranging from individual ecological interactions to those acting at a landscape level.

    Current research includes: Ecophysiology of the impact and tolerance of heavy metals and Al; plant nutrition; and the role of mycorrhizas in forest ecosystems; Impacts of elevated CO2 on forest establishment and ecosystem processes; Forest genetics and tree breeding; Forest inventory, ecology, structural and dynamic modelling and economics; Conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems.

    Study Overseas

    We offer 'split' PhD/MPhil programmes for international students with part of the study taking place in the student's own country or a third country.  Many of our British and other European students also carry out fieldwork overseas for their research.
