    What does it include?

    All students take six core units plus another twelve units chosen from a list of optional units.

    Core units are:
    -Communications for Technicians                        -Science for Technicians
    -Mathematics for Technicians                              -Electrical and Electronic Principles
    -Business Systems for Technicians                      -Project

    Optional units include:

    -Digital Electronics                                              - Electronics
    -Engineering Materials                                       - Further Electronics
    -Drawing and CAD for Technicians                      - Further Electrical Principles
    -Introduction to Software Development             - Further Mathematics for Technicians        
    -Microelectronics                                                - Further Electrical and Electronic Principles
    -PC Specifications and Maintenance                   - Electronic Computer Aided Design & Analysis
                                     
    How will I be assessed?

    Units are assessed using internal and external tests and assignments. Overall grades for the Diploma are then awarded.
     
    What do I need to get on to it?
    You will normally need to have one of the following:
    -A merit level BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject
    -A merit level GNVQ Intermediate in a related subject and GCSE grade C in Mathematics
    -At least four GCSEs at grades A-C including Mathematics and Science (double).
     
    Mature students may gain entry to the course by an interview. Students may also gain entry to the 2nd year of the course if they already have A levels and wish to gain knowledge of Engineering before progressing to Higher Education.
